On the 10 and 11 of September, Kayum F, Sunni W, Robert P, Daniel G, James G and myself Shannon W went to Gamer Development Jam at the Merimbula Learning Centre. Gamer Dev Jam is a computer programming convention. Some of the people who ran it had run a "Hackathon" last year, and at the Hackathon they made a game called "Castle Rush". Castle Rush is a game that involves VR Headsets, which are virtual reality goggles. You play the game by typing a URL into the search bar in a internet browser, then choosing a colour. Once you've chosen your colour, it comes up with a screen that says: Castle Rush. On that screen there is three buttons. One has a picture of a sword, one has a picture of a bow and the last has a picture of a club (the kind of club that trolls and giants use as weapons). You connect to a TV in a public area, then play the game. We all had a very good time. By Shannon Wade 3\4M.
On my weekend, I went to Gamer Dev Jam with my friends from BPS coding group. We learnt to use a new program called Unity. I didn't have this program and I didn't know my mum's password for the laptop to download it but I managed to crack the password!" I made a jet car stunt game on Unity and I showed Hex my game, she said it was a great game & asked me about how I made the platforms. After 2 long days of learning about coding I shut the laptop and said to myself "Ahh, What an awesome experience!". Kayum 3-4 M On the weekend of the 10th and 11th of September, I went to the Gamer Dev Jam with Robert and Kayum. When we got there I was amazed to find Shannon, James and Daniel! We were led into a room with computers and people everywhere. My Scratch project failed so I got to use Unity!!! (Unity is a professional coding program). There were great mentors that helped people to code. My mentor was Jack, he helped me to understand and use Unity. I made a rally car game and a flight simulator game on Unity. At first I felt stressed but when I got to know people, it was OK. It was great meeting Hex, from ABC TV and she liked my games. I was surprised to learn that there is a Degree for game creating. I instantly knew what I wanted to do when I go to University! I had had an awesome weekend. Sunni 3-4 M Each student has taken a photo and written a 25 word or less passage about it. We would like you to go to comments and write the number of the photo and passage that appealed to you the most.
On Tuesday the 13th of September, 3/4M and 4H had a birthday party in celebration of Roald Dahl’s birthday. If he was alive he would have been turning 100. We were encouraged to bring in some food for everyone to celebrate and share, the teaches organised lots of fun Roald Dahl related party activities like getting stockings and putting handballs inside them and putting them on your head and to trying to knock over at least 9 skittles. We also enjoyed lots of other fun party games like Pin The Nose On Mr Twit and Pin The Glass Eye On Mrs Twit. Another activity was human hungry hippo but YOU were the hippo. You had to lie down on a scooter board and one of your team mates had to push your legs to make you go while you were holding a cone and attempting to catch 1 or 2 balls; to put in your team hula hoop. This game also taught some team cooperation as 3 people from each team had to work together to capture all the balls for your team to win. Before the day we did lots of Roald Dahl activities during Literacy Groups. By Lotus and Eva A big thank you to all the parents/carers who made such amazingly presented and delicious food. What a Roald Dahl feast!
Last week John Madden came to our school to teach all students, teachers and parents how to play musical instruments that he had made himself.
Kindergarten to Year 2 played the marimbas and the echo cellos in their concert. Years 3-6 added the music boxes, bikes and drums. The teachers played two songs with Mrs Hounsell, Mrs Frost and Mrs Fairweather singing along to one of them. Mr Barnes and Mr Clare had to show coordination and skill to throw and catch their musical instruments across the hall. Many parents jumped on board for the last song (Always Look on the Bright Side of Life) and were quick to learn it and accompany 6R students who were on the boxes and drums. Overall, it was a fantastic night and the whole school was full of music and wonderful sounds. Everyone enjoyed playing the instruments as well as the parents and caregivers or came along just to watch how talented our students are. By Sarah, Lotus and Eva |
